Here’s a look at how we’re pairing old favorite blooms with new native species, discovering how to heal the earth right where we are.

Welcome to our backyard's digital scrapbook—a glimpse into The Evolving Landscape of The Dogwood Den.

See our "Layered Garden" approach at work. We believe a beautiful backyard stems from learning and mixing beloved cultivated flowers with hardy natives to support wildlife. Explore two growing spaces side-by-side:

  • Cultivated Blooms: These are our favorite non-native blooms—like vibrant zinnias and rich salvias. While they might not have originated in our zip code, they offer incredible nectar for our neighborhood pollinators and bring endless color to our cutting baskets.

  • Natives: These are the areas where we are actively rolling up our sleeves, transitioning traditional landscaping and lawn into pockets of rich, native habitat.

We are learning as we go, discovering how to heal and beautify the earth right where we are. Click through the photos below to see what’s blooming, what we’re testing, and how our garden changes with every passing season!
